Proton Holdings Bhd achieved a milestone in August 2025, recording its highest monthly sales in three years and surpassing 100,000 units sold year-to-date, cementing its position as Malaysia’s second-largest carmaker.
Record Monthly Sales
August sales: 15,228 units, Proton’s best performance since 2022.
Year-to-date (YTD): 100,902 units, crossing the six-figure mark.
Market share: 20.6% in August (+1.3ppt m/m), bringing YTD share to 19.5%.
Industry context: August total industry volume estimated at 73,890 units, the highest monthly figure so far this year.
Model Performance
Proton Saga: 6,331 units in August, YTD total 44,676 — remains the brand’s best-seller.
Proton X50: 4,287 units in August, 999 in July — over 5,000 delivered within 38 days of launch.
Proton S70: 1,210 units in August.
Proton X90: 220 units in August.
Proton X70: 627 units in August, YTD 5,598.
Persona: 1,379 units.
Iriz: 305 units.
EV Momentum
Proton e.Mas 7: 852 units in August, YTD 5,811 — currently Malaysia’s best-selling EV.
Proton expects further EV growth with the upcoming launch of the e.MAS 5 and its new EV plant in Tanjong Malim.
e.Mas 7 will be officially introduced in Singapore on Sept 17, boosting regional sales momentum.
Exports
August exports: 586 units.
YTD exports: 3,144 units, up 49% y/y.
Top export performers: Proton X50, Saga, and e.MAS 7.
Outlook
Deputy CEO Zhang Qiang said Proton remains confident of sustaining momentum with more new model launches expected. The company targets further sales achievements by year-end, supported by strong ICE demand and a growing EV portfolio.
