“Big Short” investor Michael Burry has taken a bold long position in UnitedHealth (UNH) , mirroring Warren Buffett’s recent stake in the health care giant. The Position: Through Scion Asset Management, Burry disclosed call options equivalent to 350,000 shares and a direct holding of ~20,000 shares worth about US$6 million . Timing: UNH shares are near five-year lows, down 57.4% from their 52-week high of US$630.73 . Thesis: Burry appears to be betting on a sector rebound, underpinned by stronger-than-expected Medicare Advantage rates for 2026 and UnitedHealth’s resilient competitive positioning. Shift in Strategy: Known for his bearish calls, Burry’s move signals a hunt for value in a beaten-down but fundamentally strong player — positioning for upside as the company recovers from recent turmoil.
