Market Daily Report: Bursa Malaysia Ends Nearly Flat As Construction Stocks Attract Buying

 KUALA LUMPUR, Sept 8 (Bernama) -- Bursa Malaysia closed almost flat on Tuesday as buying interest rotated away from index heavyweights towards smaller-cap construction stocks, with sentiment affected by geopolitical uncertainty, said an analyst. At 5 pm, the FTSE Bursa Malaysia KLCI (FBM KLCI) eased 0.39 of a point to 1,714.40 from Monday’s close of 1,714.79. The benchmark index opened 1.65 points lower at 1,713.14 and moved between 1,710.44 and 1,714.50 throughout the trading session. The broader market was almost evenly balanced, with decliners leading gainers 548 to 546, while 598 counters were unchanged, 1,107 were untraded and 25 were suspended. Turnover expanded to 4.13 billion units valued at RM3.14 billion from 3.60 billion units valued at RM2.45 billion on Monday.

YTL Power and YTL Corp Propel FBM KLCI Higher Amid Positive Market Sentiment

  Bursa Malaysia advanced at midday, driven by gains in YTL Power and YTL Corp as well as stronger performances in Asian markets following overnight gains on Wall Street. At the lunch break, the FBM KLCI rose 4.26 points, or 0.26%, to 1,644.06, after hitting an intra-morning high of 1,649.87. The market breadth was positive, with 532 gainers outpacing 346 losers, while 412 counters remained unchanged. A total turnover of 1.62 billion shares valued at RM1.34 billion was recorded. Dealers noted that Wall Street's gains had buoyed market sentiment, while investors closely assessed the latest U.S. inflation data and its potential impact on the global interest rate outlook. Hong Leong Investment Bank Research indicated that the FBM KLCI is expected to trade sideways ahead of the upcoming Federal Open Market Committee (FOMC) meeting on September 18.
