Market Daily Report: Selective Buying Of Defensive Stocks Lifts Bursa Malaysia Higher At Close

 KUALA LUMPUR, July 29 (Bernama) -- Bursa Malaysia rebounded to close higher on Wednesday on selective buying of defensive stocks after a volatile trading session. IPPFA Sdn Bhd director of investment strategy and country economist Mohd Sedek Jantan said consumer products and services stocks lifted the key index higher, overcoming lingering geopolitical concerns. At 5 pm, the FTSE Bursa Malaysia KLCI (FBM KLCI) rose 3.08 points to 1,715.56 from yesterday’s close of 1,712.48. The benchmark index, which opened 1.91 points higher at 1,714.39, moved between 1,710.79 and 1,720.59 during the day’s trading. In the broader market, gainers outstripped decliners 550 to 476, while 612 counters were unchanged, 1,129 untraded, and 48 suspended. Turnover rose to 2.96 billion units valued at RM2.48 billion from 2.94 billion units valued at RM2.56 billion on Tuesday.

  Notable Filings and Shareholder Changes Dataprep Holdings Bhd : Shamshuri Abdul Majid, the largest shareholder, acquired 38.18 million shares (5.17% stake) on August 13, doubling his ownership to 10.11%. This acquisition made him the largest shareholder, surpassing Tan Sri Ikmal Opat Abdullah, who is also the founder of Widad Group Bhd. Shamshuri, managing director of Mizou Holdings Sdn Bhd, first became a substantial shareholder on July 10 with a 5.16% stake. Dataprep’s share price closed at 22 sen per share on the day of the acquisition and later settled at 21 sen, valuing the company at RM158.65 million. Seng Fong Shares Surge to Two-Week High Following Record FY2024 Profit

  Shares of Seng Fong Holdings Bhd (KL) soared to their highest level in two weeks on Wednesday, after the rubber processing company reported a record annual profit for FY2024. Key Highlights: Stock Surge: Seng Fong’s shares climbed as much as 5% or six sen to RM1.25, marking the stock’s highest level since July 30, 2024. By 9:30 am, the shares were trading at RM1.22, giving the company a market capitalization of RM880 million.
