Market Daily Report: Bursa Malaysia Ends Nearly Flat As Construction Stocks Attract Buying

 KUALA LUMPUR, Sept 8 (Bernama) -- Bursa Malaysia closed almost flat on Tuesday as buying interest rotated away from index heavyweights towards smaller-cap construction stocks, with sentiment affected by geopolitical uncertainty, said an analyst. At 5 pm, the FTSE Bursa Malaysia KLCI (FBM KLCI) eased 0.39 of a point to 1,714.40 from Monday’s close of 1,714.79. The benchmark index opened 1.65 points lower at 1,713.14 and moved between 1,710.44 and 1,714.50 throughout the trading session. The broader market was almost evenly balanced, with decliners leading gainers 548 to 546, while 598 counters were unchanged, 1,107 were untraded and 25 were suspended. Turnover expanded to 4.13 billion units valued at RM3.14 billion from 3.60 billion units valued at RM2.45 billion on Monday.

Star Media Faces Profitability Squeeze as Property Pipeline Dries Up

Star Media Group Bhd (KL:STAR) may be heading toward full-year losses, as analysts warn of an impending earnings vacuum following the completion of its flagship property project and continued headwinds in its traditional media segments. Earnings Gap Widening Without Property Boost Star Media’s net profit for 1HFY2025 plunged 98.9% year-on-year to just  RM83,000 , amounting to a mere  1% of full-year consensus estimates . This drastic underperformance has prompted analysts to sharply revise earnings projections. Kenanga Investment Bank now expects  full-year losses , citing a potential earnings vacuum without the launch of new property projects to succeed the completed  Star Business Hub  in Shah Alam. The industrial development had been the group’s main earnings driver in recent years. “An earnings gap looms if no new property projects are launched… the loss of this key profit driver could push the group into the red in upcoming quarters,” Kenanga cautioned.
