Market Daily Report: Bursa Malaysia Ends Nearly Flat As Construction Stocks Attract Buying

 KUALA LUMPUR, Sept 8 (Bernama) -- Bursa Malaysia closed almost flat on Tuesday as buying interest rotated away from index heavyweights towards smaller-cap construction stocks, with sentiment affected by geopolitical uncertainty, said an analyst. At 5 pm, the FTSE Bursa Malaysia KLCI (FBM KLCI) eased 0.39 of a point to 1,714.40 from Monday’s close of 1,714.79. The benchmark index opened 1.65 points lower at 1,713.14 and moved between 1,710.44 and 1,714.50 throughout the trading session. The broader market was almost evenly balanced, with decliners leading gainers 548 to 546, while 598 counters were unchanged, 1,107 were untraded and 25 were suspended. Turnover expanded to 4.13 billion units valued at RM3.14 billion from 3.60 billion units valued at RM2.45 billion on Monday.

What a day for Bursa...another U-turn at the last minute. FBM KLCI rose at the 11th hour today to close at 1,724.75 at 5pm. T he KLCI erased losses after volatile trades earlier. Looking at Bursa, most of the export counters are being hit badly as the Ringgit seems to have find its footing. FBM KLCI closed higher after reversing losses at the 11th hour The ringgit strengthened to 4.0098 against the US dollar on crude oil gains. The exchange rate had earlier reached its strongest intraday level at 3.9805. In Asia, Japan’s Nikkei 225 was up 1.94%, while South Korea’s Kospi rose 0.35%. Hong Kong’s Hang Seng fell 0.08%. Bursa Malaysia saw 2.42 billion shares, valued at RM2.88 billion, traded. There were 396 gainers against 473 decliners. Market Daily Report: FBM KLCI made a U-turn to enter green

FBM KLCI closed 2.02 points higher If you have been following the Bursa Malaysia, you would probably be disappointed almost the entire day until the closing. The FBM KLCI was basically heading south the entire day before it turns green during the closing period. FBM KLCI rose 2.02 points or 0.1% after China's state margin lender resumed short-term loans and reduced borrowing cost for brokerages. Investors take margin loans to invest in shares or funds. At 5pm, the KLCI closed at 1,718.36 points. The index erased losses at the 11th hour, after falling to an intraday low at 1,707.11. Market Daily Report: FBM KLCI bullish after Fed's rate on hold and oil rally continue

FBM KLCI jumped 13.15 points to close at 1,716.34 The FBM KLCI saw a strong trading day today as the market jumped 13.15 points to close at its intraday high of 1,716.34.  The uptrend was in line with the regional market after the US Fed decided to keep rate on hold. The decision, reached at a two-day Federal Open Market Committee (FOMC) meeting that begun on Tuesday, resulted in renewed investor confidence in emerging markets. Across the regional market, Hong Kong's Hang Seng index was up 167.82 points or 0.82%, South Korea's KOSPI rose 4.13 points or 0.21%, and Singapore's Straits Times Index gained 15.07 points or 0.52%. Japan's Nikkei 225, however, was down 211.57 points or 1.25% while the Stock Exchange of Thailand slipped 0.43 points or 0.03%. At midday, FBM KLCI was at 1,704.51 At 12.30pm, the FBM KLCI was up 11.08 points to 1,704.51.  Gainers led losers by 396 to 282, while 321 counters traded unchanged. FBM KLCI was brought back below 1,700 mark as the Asian markets were dragged down by the less-than-rosy economic prospects voiced by the Bank of Japan (BoJ). FBM KLCI closed lower, dropping below 1,700 mark The benchmark index was down by 0.55% or 9.39 points to 1,690.92 at closing. The underperformance of banking and telecommunications stocks as well as Genting Bhd has impacted the FBM KLCI as well. Across the board, gainers led losers by 409 counters to 381 counters, while 381 counters finished unchanged. There was 1.52 billion shares traded worth at RM1.704 billion. The top gainers included Kuala Lumpur Kepong Bhd, Panasonic Manufacturing Malaysia Bhd, Syarikat Takaful Malaysia Bhd and Can-One Bhd. The feel good factor continues in the market as FBM KLCI breached the 1,700 mark.  FBM KLCI breached the 1,700 mark The positive sentiment was felt across the Asia region. In Malaysia, the FBM KLCI was up 3.77 points or 0.22% to 1,700.31.  In the Asia region, Japan's Nikkei 225 ended the day up 1.74%, while Hong Kong's Hang Seng rose 1.17% and South Korea's Kospi inched up 0.04%. Reuters reported that Asian shares began a c entral bank-focused week on firm footing today, buoyed by gains on Wall Street, as well as glimmers of strength in weekend data from China. Across Bursa,  there were 419 advancers versus 412 losers, while 360 counters closed unchanged. A total of 1.47 billion shares, valued RM1.61 billion, exchanged hands during the day. Market Daily Report: FBM KLCI up 0.27% as oil rebound

The market is behaving like a yo-yo and today, we have a better side of things. It’s an uptrend and we’re looking at a jump for FBM KLCI by 0.27% or 4.56 points to 1,690.91. FBM KLCI closed higher as oil rebound There is still no clear signal of breaking the 1,700 mark but things have been slightly more positive now. Across Bursa Malaysia, we saw 1.72 billion shares traded worth RM1.81 billion. There are 441 winners compared to the 355 losers while another 353 is unchanged. Regionally, things are also looking better except for the volatile China. The positive sentiment was mainly driven by the rebound of crude oil price and the expectation of policy easing by the European Central Bank (ECB) later in the day. In Bursa, the top gainer is Kossan Rubber Industries Bhd while leading the decliners was British American Tobacco (M) Bhd. The warrants of AirAsia X and RedSena dominated the top active counters. 

Market Daily Report: FBM KLCI down for 2nd consecutive days on China's data

The FBM KLCI fell 1.51 points or 0.1% after China's weaker external trade numbers continue to hit Asian shares. FBM KLCI closed lower at 1,686.35 At 5pm, the KLCI closed at 1,686.35 points after reaching an intraday low of 1,676.93. The market rebounded strongly in the second half of trading. According to Bloomberg data, China's Shanghai Composite slid 1.34% while Japan's Nikkei 225 lost 0.84%. Today, Reuters reported that sharp losses in Chinese stocks pulled Asian equities further away from two-month highs on Wednesday as weak trade figures from the world's second-biggest economy and wobbly oil prices revived concerns about global growth. Across Bursa Malaysia, there were 446 gainers versus 341 decliners. Trading volume was 1.83 billion shares worth RM1.9 billion. Both AirAsia Bhd and AirAsia X Bhd dominated the top-active list. P.I.E. Industrial Bhd led gainers while British American Tobacco (M) Bhd was the top decliner.

Market Daily Report: Weak China's data KO stock market

Bursa Malaysia's benchmark, FBM KLCI suffered a drop of 10.07 points or 0.6% as China’s data disappoints the market. At market close, FBM KLCI was at 1,687.86 points. FBM KLCI closed 10.07 points lower Reuters reported that global stock markets fell on Tuesday after another batch of weak data from China reinforced persistent concerns about a possible slowdown in the global economy. China's February exports disappointed analysts' expectations, falling 25.4% from a year earlier, while imports fell by 13.8%. The pan-European FTSEurofirst 300 index fell 1 percent while the MSCI All-Country World index weakened 0.3 percent. Japan's safe-haven yen notched up gains while the low-yielding euro moved up against the dollar on Tuesday as appetite for riskier assets and currencies waned following the weak Chinese data. The FBM KLCI rose 5.44 points or 0.3% to close at 1,697.93 points as crude oil price gain further strength. FBM KLCI  Brent crude oil was trading at about US$39.13 per barrel as of 5pm (Malaysia timing). The Bursa's benchmark had earlier breached the psychological barrier of 1,700 and reached an intraday high of 1,710.2 before it slowed down. Reuters reported oil prices rose on Monday, extending a rally that has lifted crude benchmarks by more than a third from this year's lows, as tightening supply and an improving global outlook strengthened the sentiment for a market recovery. Oilfield revenue was up QoQ due to stronger chemical sales to Indonesia and Turkmenistan. The market is responding to the seemingly stable and higher crude oil prices. Regionally across Asian, the market has been on the uptrend, except for South Korea. According to Reuters, Japan's Nikkei 225 closed up 0.32%, while Hong Kong's Hang Seng added 1.18%. As for the Bursa Malaysia, the FBM KLCI rose higher by 4.29 points to close at 1,692.49 points, unable to break the 1,700 level. Market Daily Report: KLCI and Ringgit sink as oil falls

FBM KLCI fell 13.11 points Reuters reported that oil prices slid on Wednesday, extending the sharp falls from the previous session after top exporter Saudi Arabia ruled out production cuts and industry data showed a further build in US crude stockpiles. US crude futures were trading at US$31.25 per barrel at 0758 GMT, down 1.95% from their last settlement. International Brent futures were down around 1% at US$32.90 a barrel. Both dropped more than 5% in intra-day trading the previous day. The consequence of the fall in oil prices are obvious given what we have seen in the past few months...the market fall as well. Just this morning, Malaysians were greeted with a good news, the oil rally of 6% and it already feels like it’s gonna be a good day for the market.
