Brokers Report: Scomi Energy Services Bhd - 3QFY16 Analyst Briefing

Maintain Hold with unchanged target price (TP) of RM0.210 Scomi Energy Services Bhd Highlights Following are the salient points from analyst briefing on last Friday. Oilfield revenue was up QoQ due to stronger chemical sales to Indonesia and Turkmenistan. On the other hand, weaker drilling activities in Malaysia, Thailand, Myanmar and Vietnam had partially offset the positive impact. Overall, drilling activity was down significantly YoY with Drilling Fluid (DF) rig count declining by 37% to 34 rigs in Dec 15 since beginning of Jan 15. Cost-cutting initiative by the group started to bear fruit with its OPEX down to RM37.9m (-18%) in Q3FY16. The group expects to bring the costs down further through more outsourcing of non-core business functions (i.e. warehousing or logistics) and this would put the group in a stronger position to weather the current downturn in the O&G industry. Market Daily Report: FBM KLCI's excitement fade as it closed marginally lower

FBM KLCI closed down 0.67 points It's quite unbelievable. With the "news" of the meeting and the freeze in oil, FBM KLCI seems to have found the light at the end's tunnel but it doesn't last. The market started on a high note, climbing to a high of 1,669.02 points in a volatile trade before closing marginally lower at 1664.32, down by 0.67 points from previous close. The Russia and Saudi effect on oil prices doesn't last as speculation is that Iran will not join in the deal to freeze output at January levels. The oil prices dropped, reversing gains earlier in the session as the concern remains that oil's oversupply is here to stay if Iran were not part of the deal. Brent crude was down 31 US cents at US$31.87 a barrel by 0739 GMT, after settling down US$1.21 in the previous session. It had climbed to US$32.83 a barrel in early trade on Wednesday. US crude fell 25 US cents to US$28.79 a barrel, after trading for much of the Asian session...

FBM KLCI closes at 1,766.830 There were 382 gainers against 402 decliners, while 304 counters remained unchanged. In our post earlier on the oil price slump , we were of the opinion that Bursa Malaysia would follow suit as per the declining trend of the oil price as we see a sharp drop. Today's top gainers: Hong Leong Capital Berhad, British American Tobacco Bhd and Apex Healthcare Bhd. The top decliners: Multi-Usage Holdings Bhd, Press Metal Bhd, and Aeon Co. Bhd. Hubline Bhd was the most actively traded stock for today. While the oil price dropped about 1%, the FBM KLCI only decline slightly at about 0.09%. Market Daily Report (05 Dec 2014)

It has been a rather frustrating week for Bursa Malaysia...the negative sentiments of the lower oil prices, weaker Ringgit has been very bad for FBM KLCI.  But there was some improvement today as the stock market close at 1749.37 points (+3.68 points/0.21% higher). It was a great relief as the benchmark open with a slight drop. The rebound is most likely due to the oversold in previous days.  Of course, many are still wary of the market and predict that the downtrend might continue with the oil price continued to be under pressure. It is also important to take note of the weaker ringgit against the USD, at 3.4698. On the other hand, most of the Asian counters rose slightly. China’s Shanghai Composite gained 1.32% while Hong Kong’s Hang Seng Index advanced 0.71%. Here are the top gainers and top losers: Top Gainers Top Losers

The problem with MAS

The problem with Malaysia Airlines (MAS) is not a one day story. This is not the first time we heard about the amount of losses made by the airline company.  In 1972, the Malaysia-Singapore Airlines (MSA) became MAS and SIA. In the last 10 years from 2002- 2011 SIA reported a total pre-tax profit of Singapore $13,992 million, averaging S$ 1.4 billion per year. This created a big question mark over the reliability and management skill of those who are appointed to lead MAS.  MAS has just reported a loss of RM 830 million for 3 quarters ending September 2013 which is larger than the loss of Rm 483 million in the same corresponding period last year.   As usual, there are the incorrigibly optimistic cheerleaders for the airline who are unable to see the writing on the wall.   These ‘experts’ are still touting that the company is in recovery mode and will soon be returning to profitability. If you look at the Business Times, you will find that one of the Head...
