 KUALA LUMPUR, Sept 8 (Bernama) -- Bursa Malaysia closed almost flat on Tuesday as buying interest rotated away from index heavyweights towards smaller-cap construction stocks, with sentiment affected by geopolitical uncertainty, said an analyst. At 5 pm, the FTSE Bursa Malaysia KLCI (FBM KLCI) eased 0.39 of a point to 1,714.40 from Monday’s close of 1,714.79. The benchmark index opened 1.65 points lower at 1,713.14 and moved between 1,710.44 and 1,714.50 throughout the trading session. The broader market was almost evenly balanced, with decliners leading gainers 548 to 546, while 598 counters were unchanged, 1,107 were untraded and 25 were suspended. Turnover expanded to 4.13 billion units valued at RM3.14 billion from 3.60 billion units valued at RM2.45 billion on Monday.

At 5 pm, the FTSE Bursa Malaysia KLCI (FBM KLCI) rose 6.69 points, or 0.39 per cent, to 1,714.79, compared with Friday’s close of 1,708.10. The benchmark index opened 1.60 points higher at 1,709.70 and fluctuated between 1,708.26 and 1,715.29 throughout the trading session. The broader market, however, was negative with losers outpacing gainers 611 to 488, while 580 counters were unchanged, 1,109 untraded and 25 suspended. Turnover declined to 3.60 billion units valued at RM2.45 billion from 4.33 billion units valued at RM2.98 billion on Friday.

The benchmark index opened 1.39 points lower at 1,713.74 and fluctuated between 1,704.86 and 1,715.20 throughout the day. The broader market was negative with losers outnumbering gainers 568 to 523, while 596 counters were unchanged, 1,085 untraded and 19 suspended. Turnover expanded to 4.33 billion units valued at RM2.98 billion from 3.90 billion units valued at RM3.21 billion on Thursday.

At 5 pm, the FTSE Bursa Malaysia KLCI (FBM KLCI) rose 8.20 points 1,708.74, compared with Tuesday’s close of 1,700.54. The benchmark index opened 0.42 of a point better at 1,700.96 and fluctuated between 1,695.89 and 1,709.71 throughout the day. On the broader market, losers trounced gainers 746 to 424, while 554 counters were unchanged, 1,048 untraded and 17 suspended. Turnover declined to 4.20 billion units valued at RM3.52 billion from 5.52 billion units valued at RM4.42  billion on Tuesday.

KUALA LUMPUR, Sept 1 (Bernama) -- Bursa Malaysia ended lower on Tuesday amid broad-based selling, as weaker global sentiment weighed on investor risk appetite. At 5 pm, the FTSE Bursa Malaysia KLCI (FBM KLCI) slid 25.34 points, or 1.47 per cent,  to 1,700.54, compared with last Friday’s close of 1,725.88. The benchmark index opened 1.61 points higher at 1,727.49 and fluctuated between 1,697.83 and 1,729.17 throughout the day. On the broader market, losers trounced gainers 956 to 349, while 443 counters were unchanged, 1,033 untraded and 24 suspended. Turnover improved to 5.52 billion units valued at RM4.42 billion from 5.06 billion units valued at RM6.51 billion last Friday. 

Market Daily Report: Bursa Malaysia Ends Higher As YTL, Banking Counters Lift Market

KUALA LUMPUR, Aug 26 (Bernama) -- Bursa Malaysia ended higher on Wednesday, in line with most regional markets, as lower oil prices eased inflationary pressure and improved risk appetite, with buying interest mainly focused on YTL-related and banking counters, an analyst said. At 5 pm, the FTSE Bursa Malaysia KLCI (FBM KLCI) surged 12.21 points to 1,748.54 from Monday’s close of 1,736.33. The benchmark index opened 3.07 points higher at 1,739.40 and fluctuated between 1,735.70 and 1,753.22 throughout the day. YTL Power International contributed 8.21 points to the index’s gains, while YTL Corporation added 3.23 points. Among banking counters, Maybank contributed 3.43 points, followed by CIMB Group with 2.30 points and Public Bank with 1.72 points. Collectively, these counters contributed 19 points to the overall rise in the composite index. On the broader market, gainers trounced losers 777 to 466, while 582 counters were unchanged, 1,029 untraded and 49 suspended.

At 5 pm, the FTSE Bursa Malaysia KLCI (FBM KLCI) rose 5.39 points, or 0.31 per cent, to 1,736.71 compared with Wednesday’s close of 1,731.32. The benchmark index opened 0.79 of a point higher at 1,732.11, and fluctuated between 1,732.11 and 1,739.13 throughout the day. On the broader market, losers outpaced gainers 610 to 577, while 610 counters were unchanged, 1,075 untraded and 16 suspended. Turnover increased to 4.28 billion units valued at RM4.01 billion from 3.31 billion units valued at RM2.92 billion on Wednesday.   IPPFA Sdn Bhd director of investment strategy and country economist Mohd Sedek Jantan said lower yields helped ease pressure on growth stocks, with technology counters benefitting from renewed investor interest.

The benchmark index opened 1.39 points weaker at 1,731.97, and fluctuated between 1,725.95 and 1,733.44 throughout the day. On the broader market, losers outpaced gainers 701 to 478, while 563 counters were unchanged, 1,131 untraded and 16 suspended. Turnover shrank to 3.31 billion units valued at RM2.92 billion from 3.74 billion units valued at RM2.91 billion on Tuesday.

At 5 pm, the FTSE Bursa Malaysia KLCI (FBM KLCI) slid 6.90 points, or 0.40 per cent, to 1,734.71 compared with Wednesday’s close of 1,741.61. The benchmark index opened 1.18 points higher at 1,742.79 and fluctuated between 1,732.83 and 1,742.79 throughout the day. On the broader market, losers trounced gainers 703 to 410, while 603 counters were unchanged, 1,082 untraded and 15 suspended.
