Thai Airways International PCL voiced frustrations over extended maintenance delays for its Rolls-Royce engines on Boeing 787 Dreamliners, with wait times stretching to 120 days — up from a previous 90-day delay, according to CEO Chai Eamsiri.
Speaking at an Asian airlines meeting, Chai said, “We send it for a shop visit, and it doesn’t come back.” Rolls-Royce attributed the delays to industry-wide supply chain constraints and has formed a task force to speed up maintenance on Trent 1000 engines used by multiple airlines, including British Airways and Virgin Atlantic.
Chai noted that Thai Airways has grounded one of its Rolls-powered 787s due to the delays, opting to use General Electric engines for a recent order of 45 Dreamliners. The CEO commented, “The situation is not getting worse, but it should be better.”
