KUALA LUMPUR, Sept 8 (Bernama) -- Bursa Malaysia closed almost flat on Tuesday as buying interest rotated away from index heavyweights towards smaller-cap construction stocks, with sentiment affected by geopolitical uncertainty, said an analyst. At 5 pm, the FTSE Bursa Malaysia KLCI (FBM KLCI) eased 0.39 of a point to 1,714.40 from Monday’s close of 1,714.79. The benchmark index opened 1.65 points lower at 1,713.14 and moved between 1,710.44 and 1,714.50 throughout the trading session. The broader market was almost evenly balanced, with decliners leading gainers 548 to 546, while 598 counters were unchanged, 1,107 were untraded and 25 were suspended. Turnover expanded to 4.13 billion units valued at RM3.14 billion from 3.60 billion units valued at RM2.45 billion on Monday.
Dan Riccio, a longtime senior executive at Apple Inc. who played a crucial role in both the Steve Jobs and Tim Cook eras, is retiring after more than 26 years with the company. Riccio, who previously oversaw Apple's hardware engineering and led the company's push into mixed-reality headsets, will step down this month. His responsibilities within the Vision Products Group (VPG), including work on the Vision Pro headset, will be transferred to John Ternus, Apple's hardware leader.
Riccio’s departure represents a significant shift in Apple’s leadership as the company transitions many of its longstanding executives. Although he stepped down as senior vice president three years ago, Riccio remained influential, particularly in driving the development of the Vision Pro headset.
During his tenure, Riccio was known for his leadership in bringing major products like AirPods, the iPad Pro, and the first large-screen iPhones to market. He was also involved in more challenging projects, such as Apple's attempts to enter the self-driving car and television set markets, which were ultimately shelved.
In recent years, Riccio had focused on Vision Pro, a mixed-reality headset that has faced technical challenges but is seen as a stepping stone for future products. Despite some setbacks, Riccio remained a strong advocate for the device, serving as a key link between the product group and Apple's top executives.
As he transitions out of Apple, Riccio has expressed interest in getting more involved with the Massachusetts Institute of Technology’s engineering program, which is named after him, potentially taking on roles in teaching and curriculum development.
His retirement follows a pattern of Apple executives reducing their roles while remaining involved in specific projects, similar to the transitions of Phil Schiller and Luca Maestri in recent years.
