Nvidia Corp is set to unveil investment plans for Thailand during CEO Jensen Huang’s visit to Bangkok in December, according to Thailand’s Commerce Minister Pichai Naripthaphan. Nvidia’s move follows other tech giants like Alphabet Inc and Microsoft Corp, as Southeast Asia becomes a key region for building AI data centers and manufacturing crucial components.
While details of Nvidia’s investment were not disclosed, Pichai indicated that the investment could spur further funding from related industries. This marks a significant step for Thailand, which has been competing with neighbors like Malaysia and Singapore for investments in cloud infrastructure and AI technologies.
Recent years have seen Thailand secure multibillion-dollar investments from companies like Amazon, Google, and Microsoft. Nvidia’s interest signals optimism for Thailand's economic outlook, which is expected to grow after a decade of military-backed rule that dampened growth.
Additionally, Thailand is working on free trade agreements with the European Union and United Arab Emirates, aiming to boost exports, particularly in agriculture and food products, which are crucial to its economy.
