KUALA LUMPUR, Sept 8 (Bernama) -- Bursa Malaysia closed almost flat on Tuesday as buying interest rotated away from index heavyweights towards smaller-cap construction stocks, with sentiment affected by geopolitical uncertainty, said an analyst. At 5 pm, the FTSE Bursa Malaysia KLCI (FBM KLCI) eased 0.39 of a point to 1,714.40 from Monday’s close of 1,714.79. The benchmark index opened 1.65 points lower at 1,713.14 and moved between 1,710.44 and 1,714.50 throughout the trading session. The broader market was almost evenly balanced, with decliners leading gainers 548 to 546, while 598 counters were unchanged, 1,107 were untraded and 25 were suspended. Turnover expanded to 4.13 billion units valued at RM3.14 billion from 3.60 billion units valued at RM2.45 billion on Monday.

With the race between Trump and Vice President Kamala Harris tightening, especially in battleground states like Pennsylvania, Trump has made appearances in the state a focal point of his campaign, saying, "If we win Pennsylvania, we will win the whole thing."
Musk’s appearance marks his most prominent political involvement to date, signaling his support for Trump. Earlier this year, Musk launched a pro-Trump super PAC and endorsed the candidate shortly after the assassination attempt. John Paulson, a hedge-fund billionaire and potential Treasury Secretary in a future Trump administration, also spoke at the rally, predicting that Trump would deliver "the greatest economic boom" the country has ever seen.
Amid heightened security, with drones and snipers visible, Trump addressed the crowd from behind protective glass, reinforcing the serious nature of the security concerns following the July 13 attack, which left one person dead and two wounded.
Musk’s support for Trump extends to his role as the owner of X, the social media platform formerly known as Twitter. His approach to content moderation has been criticized for allowing disinformation to flourish, including recent unverified claims made by Trump regarding migrant-related crime in Ohio. However, Musk remains a key figure in Trump's campaign, with discussions about a possible role for him in a future Trump administration.
