Former US president and current Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump announced on Friday that he will pursue the prosecution of Google if he wins the upcoming Nov 5 election, claiming the company is biased against him by only showing "bad stories" about him. Trump made this statement in a post on Truth Social, though he provided no evidence to support his allegations.
Trump accused Google of using an "illegal system" that favors positive news about Democratic candidate Kamala Harris while suppressing positive coverage of himself. He called for the Justice Department to intervene and prosecute Google for what he describes as "blatant interference" in the election.
“If the Justice Department does not take action, I will request their prosecution at the maximum levels when I win the election,” Trump asserted.
Google has yet to respond to these claims. This isn’t the first time Trump has made such accusations; in 2019, he alleged that Google manipulated search results to favor negative news stories about him during the 2016 presidential election. At the time, Google dismissed these allegations.
Recently, some of Trump's supporters have revived these claims. In July, following an assassination attempt on Trump, Elon Musk accused Google of having a search ban on the former president.
