Malaysia’s construction sector maintained positive growth, expanding 22.9% to RM41.1 billion in 3Q2024, up from a 20.2% increase in 2Q2024. The growth was driven by a 42.6% rise in special trade activities, with residential and non-residential buildings growing by 27.8% and 27.7%, respectively.
Civil engineering contributed RM15.2 billion, led by roads, railways, and utility projects. Non-residential and residential buildings added RM11.8 billion and RM9.4 billion, while special trade activities contributed RM4.8 billion.
The private sector remained the main growth driver with 63.5% of total value (RM26.1 billion), while the public sector grew moderately by 8.1%. The majority of construction activities were concentrated in Selangor, Johor, Wilayah Persekutuan, and Sarawak.
For the first three quarters of 2024, the sector reached RM116.8 billion, reflecting a 19.1% year-on-year increase, largely driven by civil engineering activities.
