The Employees Provident Fund (EPF) reported a 34.1% increase in third-quarter investment income, reaching RM19.67 billion, up from RM14.67 billion in 3Q2023. This growth pushed total investment income for the January-September period to RM57.57 billion, a 20% increase from the previous year.
Equity investments were the primary income source, contributing 93% of total income at RM18.32 billion. Fixed income instruments provided 33% of total income, while international investments contributed RM10.50 billion, or 53%.
EPF’s investment assets totaled RM1.22 trillion, with 62.2% in Malaysian investments and 37.8% in international holdings. Despite positive market sentiment driven by US interest rate cuts, the fund faced currency losses of RM3.71 billion due to the ringgit’s strengthening.
EPF also reported member growth, with 16.1 million members as of September, including 8.69 million active contributors. Contributions increased 9.1% to RM25.2 billion for the quarter, with voluntary contributions growing 72% year-over-year. The i-Saraan scheme saw a significant increase, with contributions reaching RM1.61 billion in 1H2024.
